2006: The pursuit of painting as a way of life

I have painting since I could walk. It has been a long love affaire, but one that did not dominate my life. As 2006 I revaluated my life and acknowledge painting is what brought me the greatest joy, so I rededicated my time and the way I lived to dedicated focus myself in the creative act of painting.

In previous years I may have done 10 to 15 paintings, carving out a few days here and there. From 2006 to today I am spending five to ten hours a day painting with has resulted in over three hundred paintings between 2006-2010. Life is good.

Of the paintings that came before, most have been burnt or destroyed in some fashion. They represented and old life that was holding me back. For me life is about renewal and looking forward.

The core of my work is the exploration of interior dialogs. What can read from the verbal expressions of a subject when the individual does not feel they are being watched. It is at those times when thoughts and emotions that have been bottled up seep into view. When we each feel the isolation of the self from the herd of human interaction and connectedness. These are the emotions that lead to the most interesting narrative line and what drives my work.

Stylistically I do not have a direct influence. Thematically, my work travels the same emotional territory as Edvard Munch and Edward Hopper.

Dave's going fishing tomorrow so I'll be playing tomorrow :) It might rain but that'll be perfect weather to move some stinging nettles. I'm relocating 'weeds' to see if I can help the butterflies find somewhere to lay :) They might not find them for a while but I'll wait it out. Might take years but I'm patient :)

Ha ha ha. Well I knew you wouldn't be cross with me but I thought it might be a bit irritating. I'll go back and like the rest. There were a few more comments I should have left too. I'll look through them backwards next time :)
